Southern belle Meg Burton is her parents’ last hope of avoiding financial ruin, and a distant cousin’s kind gesture seems an ideal solution: he will sponsor Meg for a London Season. The pursuit of a wealthy husband was not exactly how the bookish young woman had envisioned her first trip abroad—after all, what does a girl from Charleston, South Carolina, know about being a lady? Amidst the stunning gowns and extravagant balls of the ton, Meg feels like an imposter. Thankfully, she has one friend who knows her true self—Carlo, a handsome stable hand. Despite their difference in station, love blossoms between the unlikely pair, and Meg is sure of one thing: she wants nothing to do with the insufferable European aristocracy.

Prince Rodrigo de Talavera has lost everything to Napoleon. Jaded by war, he has become bitter and miserable—until he meets Meg, an American woman whose eccentric schemes and passion for life remind him what it is to laugh and to love. If only she knew him for himself and not as Carlo the stable hand. With the shadow of deception looming over their happy acquaintance and the dangers of war drawing ever more near, can Meg and Rodrigo find the courage to put aside their pretenses and discover if they can be loved as they truly are?

**I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

I was actually pretty excited to get my hands on this, since the reviews were so incredibly good! And now that I've had the chance to read it, I must say I was not disappointed!

Margaret (Meg) Burton, an American girl from South Carolina, is sent alongside her brother to England, so that she can find a wealthy man to marry and help her father's business, which isn't doing very well. Poor Meg doesn't want that, but she doesn't really have much of a choice. Her task becomes even more difficult when she learns that her behavior is looked down upon by the British, and especially by the ton.

When she first arrives to England, Meg's excited to be a guest at an old castle, given her love for Gothic novels and adventure. Sadly, she realizes that this castle is nothing like she expected, and a very common and boring place... Until she meets Carlo, the stable boy of a Spanish prince: Rodrigo de Talavera.

But what Meg doesn't know is that Carlo is, in fact, the very prince himself, who enjoys Meg's company so much that he decides not to reveal his true identity, so that he can spend more time with her and get to know each other better without all those British formalities.

These two... Oh my God...

I just loved reading about Meg's and Carlo's adventures together! It was seriously adorable. I always found myself waiting for the next moment they might share together and see what they would do! And something I really loved about Carlo was that he let Meg just be herself, and he actually liked her just as she was.

Meg is an incredible main character, I loved her so much. She's so adventurous and intelligent! The way she talked about her favorite poems, novels and even politics... I just really enjoyed it. And she also considers men and women to be equals, which I always appreciate in historical fiction. Also... She wears breeches for riding. That's all.

And Carlo always made me smile when I saw how much effort he put into making Meg happy, the picnic was just perfect... Oh and when he first said his horse's name I just laughed so much! Spanish is my first language and seeing a big stallion being called Duckling... Well, it was just hilarious.

The parts in Spanish were missing some accents, but that was really it though. They were pretty well done and the words were chosen so well.

This is the first book I've read by Jennifer Moore, but it definitely won't be my last!

--End of non-spoilery section--

I just needed to let some things out... Because seriously, how dare that earl think he can just come up to her and demand she be his mistress?! Wow sir, I must have known from the start that you did not intend to marry her, I actually wondered why you wanted to be with her at all, since she was so "disagreeable" and didn't have anything to recommend her except for her beauty. Clown.

At least we also had the colonel around, I just knew we would like him!

Oh there were also times when I wanted Meg to go to her brother and tell him right to his face to be with Helen or something. If she had to marry the earl or any other wealthy man she didn't care for, then he needed to make some sacrifices too! He was just living a happy life!... Well, don't get me wrong, I liked Daniel, but he made me mad every time he told her to remember to please the men and all that... What were you sacrificing, Daniel? Huh??

I hope you enjoyed this! Have you read this book or anything similar?

Thank you for reading! Bye-Bye!
